Welcome!
This blog is sort of an experiment. I've never really blogged before, and I have no idea what I'm doing... But people keep telling me that I need to start doing it so here I am!
I've been a volunteer at Hop Along Hollow Rabbit Rescue in Norwalk, CT since 2005 and it's crazier than I ever expected it to be. I got into it not really understanding a lot about rabbits and not really understanding what a rabbit rescue does.
It's hectic, it's never ending, it's heartbreaking, it's rewarding...all at the same time.
I've learned a lot about rabbits, yes, but I've also learned a lot about life, about people...about what being reliable really means, that the smallest creatures can sometimes be the biggest inspiration...and I've learned that there are a lot of things that I may not like, but that I just can't change.
I'll be posting about the craziness that goes on at the shelter, (we've seriously considered pitching a reality series to Animal Planet), I'll be posting random facts, and I'll be talking about some cases that may or may not have garnered some media attention.
I really don't know how to wind this down, so I'll just say enjoy, have fun, feel free to comment, and I hope to entertain you!

So, once again, time seems to have just disappeared! I can't believe the last blog post was in October!
We're all geared up for Winter here at Hop-Along Hollow, and although it's starting to get cold, we haven't had any snow (except for that freak snow storm on Halloween!).
We took in a few new bunnies over the last few weeks. I swear, they just keep getting cuter and cuter! Three bunnies came in from a hoarder in New Hampshire. She had 70 rabbits living in a shed in her backyard. We found one little guy under someone's front porch. Someone dropped off a little netherland dwarf who had apparently spent the last 2 years (including freezing winters and sweltering summers) in an outdoor hutch by herself. And we had one come in just the other day that was an owner surrender. They had her for 2 years and never even gave her a name...they were terrified of her and so never cut her nails. Apparently, her nails were over an inch long when she came in.
Thankfully, we've also had some adoptions! Laurel, who was one of the hoarded rabbits from New Hampshire has been bonded and adopted, Frosty, who was found running loose over the summer on a main road goes to his new home on Christmas Eve! And if Snoop Dog is a good boy, he'll be bonded to a pretty little Dutch girl and get a home for Christmas, too!
We haven't heard anything in a couple of weeks, but we may be taking in several lops in the near future. From what we know, a woman was breeding them (not sure if they're Holland Lops or Mini Lops and we're also not sure if she's a legit breeder or a backyard breeder), she was in a bad car accident and suffered brain trauma. She is no longer able to care for the rabbits, so her friends and family are helping to place them all. We've put in our name to help out, but haven't heard anything in a while so it's possible that places were found them already.
We finished up our Yankee Candle fundraiser at the end of October and were able to raise over $1000 from it! It was such a great way to raise money, we can't wait to do it again! Linda (our amazing president!) did a photo shoot today for a magazine that will be published in February! It's still a little ways away, but the more attention we can bring to the bunnies, the better!
